Juan Pierre had an RBI triple and scored twice as the Chicago White Sox sent the Pittsburgh Pirates to their 11th straight loss Thursday, holding on for a 5-4 win.
Pierre's first triple of the season to center field brought home Gordon Beckham, making it 4-1 in the top of the seventh inning. Omar Vizquel followed with a single up the middle, bringing Pierre home with the eventual winning run.
Pierre finished with two hits, as did Carlos Quentin as the White Sox won for the seventh time in their last eight games.
Mark Buehrle (5-6) allowed two runs on six hits in 7 1/3 innings to earn the victory. He walked one and struck out six. Bobby Jenks worked a perfect ninth for his 13th save.
Ross Ohlendorf (0-5) struggled in defeat, surrendering five runs on nine hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter.
The Pirates made it interesting with three runs in the eighth, but fell just short as they extended their longest losing streak in nearly two years.
Pittsburgh rookie phenom Pedro Alvarez, playing in his second career major-league game, finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. He's still looking for his first hit as a Pirate.
