Ubaldo Jimenez became the major’s first 16-game winner and Clint Barmes drove in three runs to guide the Colorado Rockies to a 9-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday.
Carlos Gonzalez and Brad Hawpe each homered and Dexter Fowler had a pair of RBIs to help Colorado snap an eight-game losing streak.
Jimenez (16-2) got back into the win column after suffering just his second loss in his last outing. The right-hander gave up a run on four hits in seven innings. He struck out six and walked three.
The Rockies fell behind in the first inning, but responded with nine unanswered runs. The big blow came in the second when Fowler brought two home with a double and Barmes added a two-run single for the 5-1 edge.
The Pirates didn’t score again until the eighth when Neil Walker lifted a two-run home run - his fifth of the year - to right.
Pittsburgh starter Paul Maholm (6-9), who has been at the center of trade talk recently, was tagged for eight runs and 11 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
