Jason Varitek, Marco Scutaro and Kevin Youkilis all homered and the Boston Red Sox overcame a late rally attempt for a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
Scutaro and Youkilis belted three-run homers as part of a six-run seventh inning for a 7-2 lead.
The Orioles clawed back for three runs in the ninth on a solo home run from Adam Jones and RBI singles by Matt Weiters and Luke Scott to make it a one-run game.
Closer Jonathan Papelbon allowed one of the runs, but struck out the final two batters to earn the save.
John Lackey (2-1) picked up the win, allowing three runs on 10 hits over seven innings.
Matt Albers (0-3) was charged with three runs on two hits in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.
