Jack Cust hit a pair of solo home runs and reached base five times and the Oakland Athletics beat up Freddy Garcia in a 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Saturday.
Daric Barton and Kurt Suzuki each drove in a pair of runs and Cust walked three times and scored three runs as Oakland evened up the three-game series.
The A’s scored five runs in the first two innings to grab a 5-2 lead. They broke things open with back-to-back homers from Suzuki and Cust in the fourth and added a pair of runs in the sixth for the seven-run edge.
Cust went deep for the second time in the eighth, his eighth of the year.
The support was enough for Vin Mazzaro (6-2), who allowed two runs and three hits over six innings to win his fourth straight decision.
Garcia (9-4) was chased with one away in the second inning after giving up five runs and six hits. Tony Pena came on and was charged with four runs in the next 3 2/3 frames.
Kevin Kouzmanoff, Mark Ellis, Gabe Gross and Matt Carson all finished with an RBI apiece in the A’s 13-hit affair.
Ramon Castro lifted a two-run homer in the second for Chicago’s lone damage.
