Alex Rodriguez had a grand slam and six RBIs and Andy Pettitte pitched seven superb innings in the New York Yankees’ 11-2 win over the Cleveland Indians on Monday.
Rodriguez’s slam -- his second this season -- sparked a six-run seventh inning for the Yankees, who pounded Cleveland relievers for eight runs in just 1 2/3 innings.
Robinson Cano hit his 11th homer for the Yankees, capping his phenomenal series. Cano went 10-for-17 with a pair of homers, 10 RBIs and six runs scored in four games against the Indians.
It was plenty of offense for Pettitte (7-1), who allowed four hits, including Jhonny Peralta’s 100th career homer. Mitch Talbot (6-4) was charged with the loss, but was undone by his bullpen.
Rafael Perez relieved Talbot with one out and one on in the sixth. He promptly allowed a hit, threw a wild pitch and intentionally walked Mark Teixeira to load the bases.
Former closer Chris Perez took over and was greeted with Rodriguez’s seventh homer of the season.
