Billy Butler, David DeJesus and Alberto Callaspo had three hits apiece and Scott Podsednik added two hits and two RBIs as the Royals banged out 20 hits for their fourth win in five games.

Aviles had a two-run double before Betancourt cleared the bases to drive Paulino from the game.

Jason Michaels homered and knocked in two runs for Houston, which tumbled to its fourth straight defeat.

The Astros chased Royals starter Kyle Davies with five straight hits to open the fourth, including a two-run single by Pedro Feliz.

Michael Bourn capped the uprising with a two-out, two-run double off Kanekoa Texeira (1-1), who earned his first major league win with two innings of relief.
