Willie Bloomquist’s two-out, run-scoring single in the top of the 10th inning lifted the visiting Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Bloomquist drove in Yuniesky Betancourt, who led off the inning with a single and eventually moved to third, against reliever Scot Shields (0-3) to grab the opener of a three-game set.

Mike Aviles forced extras when he tied the score in the top of the ninth with an RBI double off closer Brian Fuentes, who blew his fourth save.

Robinson Tejada (3-3) earned the victory and Joakim Sora recorded his 21st save with a perfect 10th.

Kansas City’s Scott Podsednik had three hits as the Royals have won four of five.

Both starters pitched well despite not factoring in the decision. Kansas City's Kyle Davies went 7 2/3 innings, allowing one run on seven hits, while Joe Saunders threw eight solid innings, allowing one run on six hits.

Mike Napoli singled in Torii Hunter in the fourth for the Angels’ lone run.
