Adam Rosales singled home the winning run in the top of the ninth inning as the Oakland Athletics edged the Kansas City Royals 6-5 Saturday night.

After scoring single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game, the Athletics went out in front on their 14th hit of the night. With two outs and Kurt Suzuki on second, Rosales swatted a single to center off Kansas City closer Joakim Soria (0-2), bringing Suzuki ahead with the go-ahead run.

Craig Breslow (4-2) earned the victory with a scoreless eighth inning, while Andrew Bailey worked the ninth for his 19th save of the year.

Rosales finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs as the heart of the Oakland batting order terrorized Royals pitching. The Athletics' two-to-five hitters went 10-for-20 on the night, accounting for all six runs and five RBIs.

The offense spared Trevor Cahill a loss. The Oakland left-hander worked 6 2/3 innings and surrendered five runs, all in the second inning. He allowed six hits while walking four and striking out three.

Royals starter Bruce Chen was also mediocre, allowing four runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked one.

Yuniesky Betancourt led the way for Kansas City with a grand slam, the third of his career.
