Los Angeles Angels starter Ervin Santana outdueled his Toronto Blue Jays counterpart Ricky Romero as the Angels secured a 3-1 victory to complete a sweep of a three-game series on Sunday.
Santana (1-2) pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and one earned run. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.
Romero (1-1) was making his first start since taking a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Chicago White Sox last week. The left-hander didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning but he got no offensive support in this one.
Romero went eight innings, surrendering just one run on five hits and also struck out six.
The Angels took a 1-0 lead in the sixth when Hideki Matsui’s two-out double scored Erick Aybar, who doubled to open the frame.
They added two more runs in the ninth inning on an error by first baseman Lyle Overbay before Jeff Mathis drove in the other with a double.
Adam Lind ended Santana’s shutout bid with a solo homer in the ninth.
