Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher hit homers and A.J. Burnett pitched seven solid innings to help the New York Yankees to a 6-2 victory over the host Oakland Athletics on Wednesday night.
Teixeira hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning as the Yankees finished a three-game sweep of Oakland and won for the fifth consecutive time.
New York scored five runs in the fourth off Athletics starter Gio Gonzalez. Ramiro Pena and Derek Jeter each had run-scoring singles prior to Teixeira hitting his 15th homer of the season.
Swisher, who went 3-for-4, hit his 14th homer of the year in the sixth inning to give the Yankees a 6-1 lead.
Burnett (7-7) gave up two runs and five hits for his first victory since May 30, a span in which he had lost five straight and allowed six or more runs on four occasions. The right-hander struck out three and walked two against the A’s.
Damaso Marte and Joba Chamberlain made the lead stand with a scorless frame apiece.
Coco Crisp has an RBI-single in the third for Oakland and Jack Cust had a run-scoring single in the sixth.
Gonzalez (7-6) gave up five runs and eight hits in four innings.
