Brett Cecil delivered a strong outing and the Toronto Blue Jays continued their strong road play with a 3-2 victory over Seattle, sending the Mariners to their fifth consecutive loss on Wednesday.
Fred Lewis, Alex Gonzalez and John Buck each drove in a run as Toronto improved to 14-6 on the road.
Cecil (3-2) pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The Mariners threatened in the ninth inning against closer Kevin Gregg. Chone Figgins walked and Franklin Gutierrez moved him to third with a single, but Gregg got Mike Sweeney to fly out for his 12th save.
The Blue Jays scored two runs in the fourth. Alex Gonzalez hit a single to left to plate Adam Lind, who hit a leadoff double. After Mariners starter Doug Fister walked the bases loaded, Buck was hit by a pitch for the 3-0 lead.
Ichiro Suzuki and Chone Figgins had RBI singles in the seventh to cut the deficit to one run.
Fister (3-2) went eight innings, allowing five hits while striking out five and walking one.
The Mariners activated left fielder Milton Bradley, who had been on the restricted list since May 6 because of stress and personal problems. He finished with two hits in the loss.
