Felix Hernandez was one out from a complete game and Jose Lopez doubled in the go-ahead run as the Seattle Mariners earned a 4-2 victory over San Diego in interleague play Sunday afternoon.
Milton Bradley hit a two-run homer as the Mariners snapped a five-game losing streak and salvaged the final game of the three-game series.
Hernandez (4-5) pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs – on Tony Gywnn’s inside-the-park homer in the third – striking out nine and walking one.
He came one out from his second complete game of the season but was replaced by David Aardsma, who earned his 13th save.
Milton Bradley tied the score at 2-2 with a two-run homer in the fourth. Lopez doubled in Chone Figgins in the eighth off loser Luke Gregerson (1-2) and Ichiro Suzuki had an RBI double in the ninth, extending his interleague game hitting streak to 17.
Padres starter Clayton Richard allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings. He had four strikeouts and four walks.
