Stephen Drew homered and drove in four runs, Ian Kennedy turned in his best professional outing and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a nine-game road losing skid to the San Diego Padres by posting an 11-5 win on Thursday.
Chris Young finished with four RBIs and Mark Reynolds lifted a two-run homer for the lowly Diamondbacks, who own the second-worst record in the National League at 50-78.
Kennedy (8-9) allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings. He struck out a career-high 12 batters to notch his second win in a row, just the second time this season he has achieved the feat.
Will Venable’s single in the fourth was Kennedy’s lone blemish.
Arizona looked like it had some frustration to let loose after dropping the first two of the series, and they took it out on Padres starter Kevin Correia (10-9).
Drew’s three-run blast in the second inning made it 4-0 after Young opened the scoring in the first with a run-producing single. The Diamondbacks exploded for five more runs in the fourth to chase Correia, highlighted by Young’s bases-clearing double.
Adrian Gonzalez hit an eighth-inning grand slam for San Diego.
