Troy Glaus hit a three-run homer and Brian McCann drove in a pair of runs to lead the Atlanta Braves to a 6-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.
Tommy Hanson (1-1) worked six strong innings for the Braves, allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts.
The Braves took a 3-1 lead in the sixth on McCann’s two-run double and a run-scoring single by Jason Heyward.
Glaus went deep an inning later to account for the final score. It was his first home run since 2008 with the St. Louis Cardinals after missing most of last season because of injury.
San Diego starter Clayton Richard (0-2) took the loss, surrendering six hits and three runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Adrian Gonzalez got the Padres on the board in the fifth on a single to right that plated Richard.
