Chris Snyder hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to pace the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 5-1 victory over the Florida Marlins on Friday night.
Snyder’s dinger snapped a 1-1 tie before Brandon Moss and Ronny Cedeno added RBI singles in the sixth inning. Rookie third baseman Pedro Alvarez hit his 16th home run of the year - and second in as many days - while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Pittsburgh’s Daniel McCutchen, normally a reliever, filled in for the injured Paul Maholm and went four innings, allowing one run on five hits.
Chan Ho Park followed him out of the bullpen and picked up his second win since joining the Pirates in August, throwing three innings of shutout ball while striking out six. It was his 124th career win, the most by an Asian-born pitcher in MLB history.
Adalberto Mendez (1-3) gave up five runs and two homers in 5 1/3 innings of work to take the loss. He has served up six home runs over his last two starts.
