Jon Garland allowed three hits in seven shutout innings and Scott Hairston and Kyle Blanks hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning as San Diego defeated Milwaukee 8-0 Sunday.
The Padres won three of four in the series, all by shutout, and have six shutouts this season. San Diego (16-9) has won seven of 10 and 13 of its last 16.
Garland (3-2) kept the Brewers to three singles and had three walks and seven strikeouts for his third consecutive win. Mike Adams and Sean Gallagher each pitched one scoreless inning, although Gallagher walked the bases loaded in the ninth.
Hairston also had an RBI single and stole two bases.
Tony Gwynn also had an RBI triple for the Padres in the third and scored on Hairston’s single.
The Padres bumped their lead to 4-0 in the fifth when Hairston and Blanks homered back-to-back off loser Randy Wolf (2-2). Hairston scored in the seventh on Will Venable’s single and the Padres added three runs in the eighth
