Jimmy Rollins had a pair of RBI singles and drove in three while Placido Polanco recorded four hits as the Philadelphia Phillies scored five runs in the eighth inning to pull away with a 9-3 triumph over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday.
Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz belted RBI doubles and Mike Sweeney and Ruiz scored twice for Philadelphia (67-51), which posted its 19th win in 24 games to secure sole possession of the lead in the National League wild card standings.
Chase Utley went 0-for-5 in his first game back in the lineup for the Phillies, who notched their 16th home win in their last 18 contests. The five-time All-Star second baseman had been sidelined for seven weeks with a broken thumb.
Roy Oswalt (8-13) allowed three runs and six hits while striking out seven to pick up his second straight win.
Ryan Madson fanned two in the eighth inning and Chad Durbin retired the side in the ninth to preserve the win.
Former Phillie Pat Burrell and Jose Guillen belted solo homers and Andres Torres also scored for San Francisco (67-53), which fell for the third time in four games.
Barry Zito (8-7) permitted four runs and eight hits in five innings to take the loss.
