J.P. Arencibia’s pinch-hit single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Toronto Blue Jays to a dramatic 5-4 victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
Toronto was one out away from losing before Orioles closer Kevin Gregg (0-3) walked Kelly Johnson, allowed a single to Jose Molina, hit Adam Loewen with a pitch and then threw a wild pitch to tie the contest.
Arencibia followed with a solid single to left to drive home pinch runner Chris Woodward and break Baltimore’s three-game winning streak.
Baltimore took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning when Vladimir Guerrero laced a tiebreaking double off Jesse Litsch (6-3).
Jose Bautista belted his major-league leading 41st homer in the first inning for Toronto. Bautista’s two-run shot was followed by Brett Lawrie’s solo shot in the second.
Chris Davis had two RBIs on a run-scoring single in the first and a double in the third for Baltimore. Matt Angle added a run-scoring single in the second. Guerrero had three of Baltimore’s 12 hits.
Toronto starter Henderson Alvarez allowed three runs in seven innings. Baltimore’s Rick VandenHurk gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings.
