Johnny Cueto threw seven scoreless innings to lead the visiting Cincinnati Reds to a 3-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday in the opener of a four-game series.
Cueto (3-2) allowed four hits while striking out eight and walking two to earn his first victory since May 14.
Francisco Cordero notched his 12th save of the season after a spotless eighth by Nick Masset.
Jonny Gomes had three hits and an RBI single and Brandon Phillips added two hits and a run-scoring single for the Reds.
Giants starter Madison Bumgarner (2-8) was touched for one run on eight hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
It marked the seventh time this season that the Giants have failed to score more than one run behind Bumgarner.
Miguel Tejada had two hits for San Francisco, which lost for the third time in nine games.
