Yankees 6, Red Sox 2: Eric Chavez belted two of New York's five solo home runs and the rival Yankees spoiled host Boston's 100th anniversary party at Fenway Park.

Alex Rodriguez clubbed his milestone 631st career homer to move into fifth on baseball's all-time list and Nick Swisher and Russell Martin also went deep as New York sent the Red Sox to their fourth consecutive defeat.

Ivan Nova (3-0) rode the long-ball parade to win his 15th consecutive decision dating to last year, allowing two runs on seven hits in six innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz (1-1) surrendered all five homers and left after giving up six runs on nine hits in six-plus innings.

Boston threw a lavish pregame ceremony on the 100th anniversary of the oldest ballpark in the majors, bringing back more than 200 former players to commemorate the occasion.

And, as often been the case throughout the team's history, its bitter rival unceremoniously dimmed the occasion with a single run in the first before back-to-back homers by Swisher and Chavez made it 3-0 in the second.

Chavez homered again in the fourth before Rodriguez hit a shot over everything in left field in the fifth to move past Ken Griffey Jr. on baseball's career list. Rodriguez also singled in the first run.

David Ortiz homered for Boston, which fell to 3-4 on its current nine-game homestand and tumbled to 4-9 on the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Derek Jeter singled in the second, giving him 3,111 hits and moving him past Dave Winfield into 18th on the all-time list. He also extended his hitting streak to 11 games. ... Nova has not lost since June 3, 2010, at Anaheim. His 15 straight wins represent the second-longest streak in franchise history, trailing Roger Clemens, who won 16 consecutive decisions in 2001. ... The Red Sox have allowed a major league-high 23 home runs. ... Boston did earn a spot in the Guiness Book of Records when 32,904 patrons participated in a pregame toast - the largest ever in one venue.
