Phillies 8, Rockies 5: Carlos Ruiz belted a three-run homer and Vance Worley tossed 6 2/3 solid innings as reeling Philadelphia posted just its second win in 13 outings.
Chase Utley collected three hits - including a pair of RBI singles - and Shane Victorino added a run-scoring triple for the Phillies, who avoided matching a season-high six-game losing skid by maintaining their mastery at Coors Field. Philadelphia improved to 12-3 in its last 15 games in Colorado.
Ruiz capped the four-run uprising in the first inning by depositing a fastball from Jeremy Guthrie (3-9) just one row over the wall in left-center field. Ruiz's homer was his 14th of the season - and third this month.
After striking out Michael Cuddyer with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to preserve a two-run lead, Worley (5-5) helped his own cause by a lining a two-run double to right field in the sixth. Worley avenged a loss to Colorado on June 21 by allowing two runs on eight hits.
Wilin Rosario crushed a fastball from Brian Sanches for a three-run homer in the eighth inning to pull Colorado within a run at 6-5. Jonathan Papelbon was then ushered in by manager Charlie Manuel and retired all five batters he faced for his 19th save.
Carlos Gonzalez had an RBI double and Dexter Fowler added a run-scoring single for the Rockies, who saw their modest two-game winning streak come to an end.
Guthrie yielded four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado veteran 1B Todd Helton, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right hip inflammation, received a cortisone shot on Saturday. ... Worley's two-run base hit was his second career double.
