White Sox 4, Mariners 3 (10): Dayan Viciedo slammed a homer to left field with one out in the bottom of the 10th to lift Chicago past visiting Seattle.
Viciedo drilled a 2-0 pitch from Kameron Loe (1-1) well into the bleachers to give the White Sox their second consecutive victory and hand the Mariners their fourth loss in five games. Addison Reed (1-0) worked out of a jam in the top of the 10th by striking out Michael Morse with two runners on.
All the runs in the contest came on homers. Morse hit a two-run homer in the top of the first for Seattle and Chicago’s Adam Dunn answered with a mammoth two-run shot in the bottom of the inning.
Kendrys Morales, who went 3-for-4, homered in the sixth to give Seattle a 3-2 edge and Alex Rios hit his third homer in as many days in the seventh to tie the score.
Chicago starter Chris Sale allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings, while Seattle’s Hisashi Iwakuma gave up three runs and four hits in eight innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Iwakuma retired 16 consecutive batters after allowing Dunn’s first-inning homer before Rios took him deep. … The White Sox have won 26 of their last 31 games against the Mariners. … Seattle faces the Houston Astros on Monday in its home opener. Houston starter Philip Humber tossed a perfect game against the Mariners last season as a member of the White Sox.
