Seattle starter Joe Saunders (1-2) was hit for seven runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked three and did not record a strikeout in dropping to 0-7 with a 9.91 ERA in seven starts at Rangers Ballpark during the regular season.
Jeff Baker got the scoring started with a solo homer off Saunders in the second. A.J. Pierzynski ripped a two-run single and Gentry drove in two more with a triple to left-center field as part of a six-run fifth.
Robbie Ross took over for Darvish in the eighth and struck out the side as Texas pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts in picking up their third team shutout.
