Blue Jays 10, Mariners 2: Mark DeRosa and Melky Cabrera homered in a four-run fifth inning as Toronto averted a sweep at the hands of visiting Seattle.
Cabrera and Maicer Izturis both finished 3-for-4 and DeRosa added three hits for the Blue Jays, who won for just the second time in the past 10 games. Starter Brandon Morrow (1-2) threw eight strong innings, limiting his former team to two runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking a season-high five.
Mariners counterpart Joe Saunders (2-4) was torched for seven runs on nine hits over five innings. The veteran left-hander has a 9.13 ERA over his last four starts.
Toronto came into the game having scored just three runs in its previous four games, but had little trouble against Saunders. Leading 3-2, Cabrera extended the advantage with a solo shot to left - his first of the season - and DeRosa made it a rout with a three-run blast to straightaway center field.
An Edwin Encarnacion RBI groundout made it 8-2 in the sixth, and Munenori Kawasaki and Cabrera capped the rout with run-scoring singles in the seventh.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Seattle took advantage of four Morrow walks to score its only two runs in the fifth, as Robert Andino had an RBI groundout and Kyle Seager added a run-scoring sacrifice fly. ... The Blue Jays improved to 8-0 when scoring at least five runs. ... Toronto, which finished 2-4 on its six-game homestand, opens a seven-game road trip Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Mariners continue their five-game trek Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
