Leonys Martin certainly has enjoyed playing against his former team the past few days.
Martin went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the visiting Cleveland Indians to a 4-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Martin, who was traded from the Tigers to the Indians last year before surviving a life-threatening infection, finished the series with two home runs, five hits and three walks to help the Indians take two of the three games.
Following an RBI single by Carlos Santana in the top of the first inning that gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead, Martin blasted a solo home run deep into the seats in right field to give the Indians a 2-0 advantage in the third.
Martin then struck again in the fourth with a base hit to right that scored Kevin Plawecki, putting Cleveland ahead 3-0.
Martin scored his second run of the game in the seventh on another RBI single by Santana, this time to right field, to make it 4-0.
That was more than enough run support for Indians pitching, led by starter Shane Bieber.
Following a solid start in which he gave up two runs and struck out nine in a win over the Toronto Blue Jays on April 5, Bieber (1-0) struck out six, walked one and allowed just three hits in seven innings to pick up the win against the Tigers.
Adam Cimber and Brad Hand each pitched scoreless innings to complete the shutout for Cleveland.
It was the third time this season that the Tigers have been shut out.
Spencer Turnbull (0-2) took the loss for Detroit, allowing three runs and eight hits in four innings.
Niko Goodrum was the lone bright spot offensively for Detroit, reaching base twice on a single and a walk.
