Justin Smoak tied the score with a ninth-inning homer and won it with an RBI single in the 10th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays came back to defeat the visiting Cleveland Indians 2-1 Tuesday night.
It was the first win by the Blue Jays in six games this season against the Indians.
Toronto's Ken Giles (2-2) pitched around a single and a walk in the top of the 10th to earn the win.
Adam Cimber retired the first two batters of the bottom of the 10th before Tyler Olson (1-1) took over and walked Eric Sogard, who took second on a wild pitch and moved to third on an infield single by Freddy Galvis. Smoak delivered the game-winning single to left.
Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer allowed no runs, three hits and three walks while striking out nine in 7 2/3 innings.
He was deprived of the win when Smoak hit his 17th homer of the season with one out in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score against Cleveland closer Brad Hand.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. then singled off the left field wall with two outs in the ninth. Cimber replaced Hand and allowed Randal Grichuk's single before striking out Teoscar Hernandez.
Toronto starter Aaron Sanchez, who didn't figure in the decision Tuesday but has lost 13 straight decisions after winning on April 27, allowed one run and five hits while striking out six over five innings.
Sanchez retired his first eight batters before Greg Allen singled with two outs in the third, stole second and scored on Francisco Lindor's single past second baseman Cavan Biggio.
The Indians could not capitalize on a leadoff double by Carlos Santana in the fourth.
The Indians threatened again in the fifth on Lindor's two-out single to second and Oscar Mercado's double. Santana took a third strike to end the threat.
Guerrero led off the bottom of the fifth with Toronto's first hit, a double. Hernandez walked with one out, but Bauer ended the inning with two strikeouts.
Joe Biagini replaced Sanchez and was perfect in the sixth and seventh innings and had two strikeouts.
Bauer set the Blue Jays down in order in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings.
Daniel Hudson replaced Biagini and tossed a perfect eighth.
Hernandez led off the bottom of the eighth with a single, Toronto's second hit of the game. Billy McKinney struck out. Hernandez took second on a wild pitch and was out trying to score on a single to right by pinch hitter Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
Oliver Perez replaced Bauer and finished the inning by striking out Sogard.
Toronto's David Phelps pitched around a walk in the top of the ninth.
