Jordan Luplow belted a homer to lead off the 10th inning to lift the host Cleveland Indians to a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday.
Cesar Hernandez, who was stationed on second base to begin the 10th inning, was able to waltz home after Luplow deposited a 1-1 cutter from Alex Colome (1-3) over the wall in left field. The homer was Luplow's team-leading sixth of the season.
Luplow's blast made a winner out of Emmanuel Clase (2-1), who struck out one batter in a spotless 10th inning.
Cleveland's Jose Ramirez launched a solo homer to forge a tie at 3 with one out in the eighth inning. Former Twin Eddie Rosario ripped an RBI double in the sixth inning and came around to score on Franmil Reyes' single for the Indians, who have won two in a row following a four-game losing skid.
Brent Rooker belted a solo homer in the second inning, and Luis Arraez and Jorge Polanco each drove in a run for the Twins, who have lost three in a row and 12 of 14 overall.
Arraez's two-out RBI single to left field scored Jake Cave to give the Twins a 3-2 lead in the eighth. However, Ramirez responded in the bottom of the inning. Ramirez sent a 3-2 knuckle curve from Tyler Duffey down the right-field line and over the wall for his fifth homer of the season.
Minnesota seized the early lead as Rooker deposited a first-pitch fastball from Zach Plesac over the wall in center field. Rooker's homer was his first of the season and second of his career.
Polanco's sacrifice fly in the fourth doubled the Twins' advantage before the Indians answered by scoring twice with two outs in the sixth inning.
Hernandez worked a five-pitch walk from Jose Berrios to lead off the sixth before he came around to score after Rosario stepped in three batters later and sent a shot into the left-field corner. Rosario didn't stay on second base for long, as Reyes brought him home with a single to right field.
