Mookie Betts had three hits and two RBIs and Gavin Stone pitched 6 2/3 strong innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers notched a 5-2 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres on a rainy Friday night.
Gavin Lux, Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy also drove in runs for Los Angeles, which halted a two-game slide in a game that was delayed for two hours and 15 minutes at the outset due to the downpour.
Stone (1-1) retired the first 15 batters he faced and booked 5 2/3 innings before giving up his first hit. He allowed two runs, five hits, one walk and struck out four before exiting.
Evan Phillips gave up singles to Manny Machado and Jurickson Profar in the ninth before retiring Tyler Wade on a grounder for his fifth save.
Fernando Tatis Jr. and Wade had RBI hits for the Padres, who scored 18 runs while winning their previous two games.
The Dodgers pushed across three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Lux came up with runners on first and second with one out and delivered a run-scoring single to right off Tom Cosgrove (0-1), who was charged with three runs in one-third of an inning. Betts followed with an RBI single to end Cosgrove's stint before Ohtani hit a sacrifice fly to center off Adrian Morejon.
San Diego moved within 4-2 in the seventh when Ha-Seong Kim hit a two-out double inside first and scored on Wade's RBI single. Michael Grove replaced Stone and struck out Eguy Rosario to end the frame.
Los Angeles got the run back in the bottom of the frame on Muncy's sacrifice fly to left.
Daniel Hudson struck out the side in the eighth for the Dodgers.
Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead in the fourth. James Outman singled with one out, Lux walked with two outs and Betts drilled a single to left to score Outman.
In the top of the sixth, Wade walked for San Diego's first baserunner against Stone. He was quickly erased with Rosario bounced into a double play.
Kyle Higashioka followed with a single to left for the initial hit off Stone. Jackson Merrill singled to move Higashioka to third before Tatis doubled to left center to tie the score.
San Diego starter Matt Waldron allowed one run and three hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked four.
