Trent Grisham hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning, Aaron Judge hit his major league-leading 24th homer and the New York Yankees avoided a three-game sweep with a 6-4 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night.
Juan Soto missed his third straight game with left forearm inflammation, and the crowd was chanting for Soto when Grisham began his at-bat with two on against Los Angeles starter Tyler Glasnow (6-5).
Grisham turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead when he lined a 2-1 offering down the right field line. It was the fifth hit and third homer of the season for Grisham, who was acquired from the San Diego Padres with Soto.
Shohei Ohtani narrowly beat Judge's throw from right field on Will Smith's sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth. Judge restored the two-run advantage in the bottom half by homering to left.
Grisham made his 18th start of the season and reached three times by sandwiching a pair of walks around his homer.
Oswaldo Cabrera also homered and Judge hit an RBI double as the Yankees avoided their second three-game losing streak of the season and won for the ninth time in 11 games.
Mookie Betts hit a tying two-run double in the fifth and Teoscar Hernandez homered in the sixth to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead before Grisham delivered.
New York rookie Luis Gil allowed three runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings and was lifted after Hernandez hit his third homer of the series. Gil struck out five, walked one and avoided the loss when Grisham homered.
Caleb Ferguson (1-3) followed Gil and put two on in the seventh before Luke Weaver retired Betts on a double-play grounder. Weaver kept the game at one run by fanning Hernandez to end the eighth.
Clay Holmes allowed a pair of two-out singles but struck out Betts to secure his 19th save in 22 chances.
Glasnow allowed five runs on a season-high-tying eight hits in six innings. He struck out 12 for his fifth double-digit strikeout game this season and walked one.
