J.P. Crawford hit a grand slam in the second inning and scored the winning run in extra innings as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting Tampa Bay Rays 6-5 Saturday night.

Mitch Haniger lined the first pitch of the bottom of the 10th inning from Rays right-hander J.P. Feyereisen (3-3) down the left-field line to score Crawford from second base.

Tampa Bay's Brandon Lowe homered with two outs in the ninth inning off right-hander Kendall Graveman to tie the score.

Right-hander Rafael Montero (4-2) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th for the victory.

It was the sixth victory in the past seven games for the Mariners to push them above the .500 mark.

Mike Zunino and Manuel Margot also homered for the Rays, who suffered their season-worst fifth consecutive defeat and dropped a half-game behind Boston in the race for first place in the American League's East Division.

The Rays took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Austin Meadows led off by grounding a single to center field and scored on Joey Wendle's one-out double to left. Taylor Walls reached base on a bunt down the third-base line, advancing Wendle to third, and he came home on a sacrifice fly by Zunino.

The Mariners scored five runs in the bottom of the inning. Kyle Seager led off with a double to right and Tom Murphy followed with a single to left to put runners on the corners. Jake Bauers lined a run-scoring single to left. Dylan Moore then walked to load the bases. After Fleming struck out Jake Fraley and Shed Long Jr., Crawford cleared the bases with a liner just over the right-field wall on an 0-1 count for a 5-2 lead.

Zunino, who played with the Mariners from 2013-18 after being Seattle's first-round draft pick in 2012, led off the fifth with a solo shot to left-center.

Margot homered with two outs in the sixth, pulling the Rays within 5-4 and ending rookie Logan Gilbert's night.

Gilbert, the Mariners' top pitching prospect, was making his seventh major league start. The right-hander went 5 2/ 3 innings and allowed four runs on six hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out seven.

Rays left-hander Josh Fleming allowed five runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five.
