Nathan Eovaldi took a shutout into the eighth inning and tossed 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball against his former team as the host Boston Red Sox beat the rival New York Yankees 4-2 on Saturday night.

Eovaldi (8-4) allowed seven hits and walked none while striking out six batters. Enrique Hernandez, Bobby Dalbec, Hunter Renfroe and Xander Bogaerts each drove in a run for the Red Sox.

Boston improved to 5-0 this season against New York after a three-game road sweep of the Yankees on June 4-6 and winning 5-3 in the series opener Friday.

DJ LeMahieu finished 4-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBIs for New York. Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery (3-2) allowed three runs on eight hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts in six innings.

New York has dropped three of its last five games.

The Red Sox scored twice in the second inning on a pair of sacrifice flies. Hernandez flied out to center field with the bases loaded and no outs to plate Boston's first run.

With runners on first and third, Dalbec popped out in foul territory down the right-field line. Rafael Devers scored as Yankees first baseman Luke Voit was slow to turn around after making an over-the-shoulder catch.

Renfroe made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the third. Bogaerts added an insurance run with his sacrifice fly in the seventh before LeMahieu's seventh homer of the season chased Eovaldi and made it a three-run game in the eighth.

LeMahieu hit a two-out RBI single off Red Sox reliever Adam Ottavino in the ninth to pull New York within 4-2. Ottavino then struck out Aaron Judge to end the game and record his fifth save.

Boston rookie catcher Connor Wong made his first career start and went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts. Wong, acquired in the trade that sent former American League MVP Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, made his major league debut as a pinch runner on Tuesday at Tampa Bay.
