Sasha Vujacic scored five of his career-high 25 points in overtime as the host New Jersey Nets snapped a three-game slide with a 103-101 overtime victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday.
Brook Lopez hit the game-clinching free throws with 24 seconds left and scored 20 points for the Nets, who went 12-of-23 from 3-point range.
The teams traded turnovers after Lopez’s free throws and Kris Humphries missed a pair at the line, giving the Hornets one last chance. But Chris Paul’s 3-pointer rolled around the rim and off as time expired, dealing New Orleans its fourth consecutive setback.
David West poured in 18 points in the first half, but New Orleans still trailed, 46-42. The Nets stretched the lead to as much as 55-46 with an 8-0 burst early in the third period before the Hornets began to gain some momentum.
Marco Belinelli hit three 3-pointers and West poured in six more points to help push New Orleans ahead, 71-69, entering the fourth quaretr.
The Hornets held a 91-86 lead with under a minute left in regulation before Jordan Farmar hit a 3-pointer and Vujacic found Humphries for a dunk with 12 seconds left to force the extra period.
West totaled 32 points and 15 rebounds for New Orleans.
