The Jazz seemingly broke the game open in the third quarter. Mitchell and Royce O'Neale each scored back-to-back baskets to fuel an 11-0 run that gave Utah a 92-77 lead. Washington answered with a 13-0 run -- capped by a 40-foot 3-pointer by Jordan McRae at the third-quarter buzzer -- to cut the deficit to 92-90.
Ingles opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back baskets to give Utah some breathing room again.
The Wizards kept chipping away and finally took a 116-114 lead on a dunk from Beal off a Jazz turnover. Utah surged back in front for good after going up 120-116 on back-to-back baskets from Gobert and Rubio.
Beal capped a 9-0 run with a layup to give Washington an 18-12 lead midway through the first quarter.
The Wizards stayed in front until Ingles drew a foul on a layup and Beal got hit with a technical after complaining about the call. Ingles and Kyle Korver each hit a free throw to tie the game and kickstart a 19-4 run that put the Jazz up 41-30 early in the second quarter.
Ingles scored three baskets to fuel the run -- including a step-back jumper to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter.
Mitchell kept the Jazz on top throughout the second quarter after returning following a first-quarter eye injury. He scored 14 points while hitting all six shots he took in the quarter. It helped Utah boost its lead to 61-46.
Beal and Porter combined to score five straight baskets to rally the Wizards. Beal punctuated the sequence with a step-back jumper that cut the Jazz lead to 63-59. Rubio and Ingles halted the run with back-to-back baskets and Rubio added a step-back jumper to give Utah a 70-62 halftime lead.
