The Texas A&M Aggies cruised to an easy 88-56 win over Alcorn State on Friday night at College Station in the season opener for both teams.
The Aggies, (24-10, 11-5 Big 12) took charge early and never let up against the overmatched Braves (2-29, 2-16 SWAC). Alcorn actually led 7-6 in the first half, but went scoreless for over seven minutes. By the time they scored again, A&M led 21-8 and the Braves would never recover.
The Aggies led 52-25 at the half behind 15 points from Nathan Walkup and on the strength of 57-percent shooting from the field. Walkup led all scorers with 22 points and added eight rebounds. Kourtney Roberson added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Chris Davenport led Alcorn State with 11 points.
The Braves made only 29-percent of their shots. The Aggies shot 44-percent from the floor.
