Tim Abromaitis scored eight of his game-high 25 points in the second overtime and Tyrone Nash added 18 as Notre Dame held off Georgia, 89-83, in double overtime on Thursday in the Old Spice Classic.
The Bulldogs shot 56 percent in the first half to take a 37-25 lead at the break. Travis Leslie led the way with 12 points in the first, including five during a 12-1 burst late that put Georgia up, 35-23.
But Notre Dame (5-0) looked like a completely different team after the half, using a 14-0 spurt starting at the 13:08 mark to take over the lead, 52-48. The Fighting Irish were up 60-52 with 2:38 left when they took their foot off the gas, allowing the Bulldogs to come back and force overtime on Trey Tompkins’ tip with nine seconds left.
The teams played to a draw in the first overtime before Abromaitis took over in the second.
Georgia (3-1) proved a big step up in competition for Notre Dame, which will have to get used to playing strong teams when Big East play starts.
