David Lighty scored 21 points and DeShaun Thomas added 15 to lead No. 3 Ohio State to a 66-45 win over Miami (Ohio) on Friday. The Buckeyes (5-0) took control early and held the RedHawks (2-4) to 20 of 70 shooting from the field. Orlando Williams led Miami with 13 points while Julian Muvunga scored 11. Jared Sullinger put up 12 points for Ohio State.
Neither team scored for nearly four minutes into the game. Miami's Allen Roberts hit two free throws at the 16:16 mark to put the RedHawks up 2-0, which turned out to be Miami's only lead.
Ohio State went on a 22-3 run over the next 8:16. The Buckeyes led 28-16 at halftime and held Miami to 8 of 34 shooting. The RedHawks scored the first seven points of the second half, but Ohio State regained control and continued to open the lead.
Lighty scored 12 points, including two 3-pointers and a three-point play, pushing the lead to 50-29 with 7:59 to play. Lighty notched 7 of 12 from the field and hit all four of his 3-point attempts.
Ohio State made 33 of 63 shots from the field.
