Freshman Tobias Harris scored a career-high 21 points and junior Scotty Hopson added 19, leading No. 17 Tennessee to a 76-56 home victory against Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday at Thompson-Boling Arena.
The Vols (6-0) built a 46-23 halftime lead and cruised from there, shooting 45.6 percent from the field while holding Middle Tennessee State to 37 percent. Harris and Hopkins combined to go 11-for-20 from the field, including 6-for-8 from 3-point range, and 12-for-15 from the free-throw line.
James Washington III scored 11 points, and Rod Emanuel added 10 for the Blue Raiders (3-4).
Tennessee outrebounded the Blue Raiders 32-17, led by eight rebounds from center Brian Williams. It was the Vols' first game back home since winning the Dick's Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off last week at Madison Square Garden.
The Vols knocked off then-No. 7 Villanova in the finals of that tournament, and they'll get a shot at another top-5 team next, traveling to No. 3 Pittsburgh on Dec. 11.
