Jimmer Fredette scored 28 of his season-high 34 points in the second half as No. 16 Brigham Young held off Buffalo 90-82 on Thursday night for its third consecutive victory.
Fredette, the fifth-leading scorer in the NCAA at 24.2 points per game, was virtually unstoppable after a competitive half that saw the Cougars (11-1) nurse a two-point lead. With the game 53-51 midway through the second half, Fredette had seven points during a 10-2 run that gave Brigham Young some breathing room.
After the Bulls (7-4) pulled back to within three points, Brandon Davies rattled off six straight Brigham Young points and Fredette added the dagger, a 3-pointer with 3:07 remaining that put the Cougars up by double digits.
Fredette finished 11-for-24 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line to surpass his previous season high of 33 points set Dec. 11 against Arizona. The 6-foot-2 senior guard has scored 20 or more points in six straight games.
Noah Hartsock added 19 points and Davies chipped in 18 for Brigham Young, which shot 48.4 percent from the field.
Mitchell Watt's 17 points led five Buffalo players in double figures. The Bulls committed 20 turnovers in defeat, with all eight Buffalo players turning the ball over at least twice.
