Six Oklahoma State players scored in double figures, and an 18-2 second half run provided separation as the host Cowboys rebounded from their worst loss of the season by downing Texas-San Antonio 79-63 on Monday night.
The Cowboys (12-2) had their seven-game winning streak snapped when they were pounded 73-52 at Gonzaga on Friday.
It took at little time for the Cowboys to get going Monday against the Roadrunners. Oklahoma State led by 10 in the first half, but saw Texas-San Antonio cut the lead to 36-33 on two Melvin Johnson III free throws with 15 seconds left before halftime.
The Roadrunners (6-6) hung around in the early minutes of the second half, and pulled within 47-46 on Jeromie Hill’s basket with 14:36 to go. The Cowboys got going from there, and scored 18 of the next 20 points to put this one away. Jan-Paul Olukemi scored seven points in the run, and his dunk followed by Reger Dowell’s layup with 9:09 to go made it 65-48.
The Cowboys shot 60.9 percent from the field. Olukemi led Oklahoma State with 16 points, followed by Marshall Moses (14 points), Dowell (12 points), Markel Brown and Darrell Williams (11 points apiece) and Matt Pilgrim (10 points).
Johnson led the Roadrunners with 16 points.
The Cowboys open Big 12 play Saturday when they host No. 17 Kansas State.
