In a contest marked by low scoring and poor shooting, Iowa had just enough firepower to prevail over Alabama 55-47 in a consolation-round game of the Paradise Jam at St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Zach McCabe led three players in double figures for the Hawkeyes with 13 points. Eric May added 12 points and Bryce Cartwright finished with 10.
Iowa (2-2) scored seven of the first nine points in the second half to pull away from a 29-29 tie.
The Hawkeyes led 38-37 with 11:29 to play before going on an 8-0 run in the following 3 1/2 minutes to take a nine-point lead and cruise from there.
Iowa shot 15-for-42 (35.7 percent) from the field, including 5-for-14 (35.7 percent) from 3-point range.
JaMychal Green had 17 points and Tony Mitchell chipped in 13 points to pace Alabama (2-2).
Iowa went to the free-throw line 35 times but converted just 20.
