Freshman Anthony Drmic scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half and Boise State avenged last year’s dramatic loss to Utah with an 80-59 victory over the visiting Utes on Wednesday.
Ryan Watkins and Drew Wiley scored 11 points apiece for Boise State (2-0), which lost to Utah last December on a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left.
Utah (1-1), picked to finish last in the Pac-12, trailed by as many as 28 in the second half and committed 19 turnovers. Josh Watkins led the Utes with 19 points, and Anthony Odunsi scored 14.
Playing without injured center David Foster (foot), the Utes were outrebounded 32-23. The 7-foot-3 Foster, who was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year in 2010, expects to miss at least another month.
Utah guard Chris Hines, who was expected to miss several games with a rib injury, made his season debut and finished with three points.
