Hollis Thompson drained a 3-pointer with one second left as Georgetown upset No. 12 Alabama 57-55 in the Big East/SEC Challenge in Tuscaloosa.
Thompson, who scored 12 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, helped the Hoyas (6-1) avert a near disaster, as they blew a 10-point lead with 2:57 remaining. Alabama trailed 54-45, but scored 10 straight and took the lead with 12 seconds remaining on a pair of free throws by point guard Trevor Releford.
Jason Clark made 7 of 11 from the floor, including four 3-pointers, and led Georgetown with 22 points and Henry Sims scored 13.
Alabama (7-1) was led by Tony Mitchell, who had 20 points and nine rebounds. Mitchell had a 3-pointer and a free throw that drew the Crimson Tide to within a point with 55 seconds left. JaMychal Green scored 13 for Alabama.
