DUKE 70, VIRGINIA TECH 65 (OT): Austin Rivers scored 23 points and Miles Plumlee scored four points in overtime as the host Blue Devils escaped for their sixth straight win and sent the Hokies to another close conference loss.
Plumlee finished with six points and 15 rebounds and Seth Curry scored 19 points for Duke (25-4, 12-2 ACC), who held onto first place in the ACC with two regular-season games left.
Virginia Tech (15-14, 4-10) has suffered seven of its 10 ACC losses by five points or less and has had its last five games decided by a total of 10 points.
Plumlee began overtime with a jumper and clinched it with a pair of free throws.
The Blue Devils looked poised to pull away at several points in the second half but the pesky Hokies kept coming.
Rivers gave Duke a 55-53 edge on a 3-pointer with 2:27 remaining before Virginia Tech made its last burst, tying it on Erick Green’s jumper and grabbing a 58-55 lead when Dorenzo Hudson banked in a 3-pointer off a turnover with 1:31 to play.
Mason Plumlee scored and Rivers split a pair of free throws to tie it again and send the game to overtime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Virginia Tech G Erick Green was held scoreless in the first half but finished with 16 points on 7-of-19 shooting … Duke shot 6 for 24 from beyond the arc … The Blue Devils visit Wake Forest on Tuesday before closing out the regular season by hosting rival North Carolina.
