Senior guard Patricio Garino scored 17 points to help visiting George Washington beat Central Florida 67-50 Tuesday night at CFE Arena in Orlando, Fla.
Garino led three players who scored in double figures for George Washington (11-2), which rebounded from a resounding loss to DePaul. Senior forward Kevin Larsen scored 14 points. Junior forward Tyler Cavanaugh had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Junior forward Tanksley Efianayi scored 12 points to lead UCF (6-5). Senior forward Shaheed Davis had 11.
George Washington mounted a 13-2 run to take a 17-9 lead on a three-point play by Cavanaugh. UCF rallied to tie the game at 22-22 on a 3-pointer by Efianayi. The Colonials went up 34-28 following back-to-back baskets by Larsen later in the half, but Davis made a 3-pointer in the final minute to cut the deficit to three at the break.
George Washington staged 7-2 and 12-2 runs to take control early in the second period. The Colonials went up 45-35 on a layup by Larsen, took a 53-37 lead on a 3-pointer by junior guard Matt Hart and went up 57-37 on a free throw by Garino. They led by as many as 23 points late in the game.
