Kyle Filipowski scored 25 points and No. 2 Duke overpowered visiting Dartmouth in a 92-54 season-opening victory Monday night at Durham, N.C.
Filipowski made 10 of 12 shots from the field and went 4-for-4 on free throws. He had 10 first-half points and then matched that in less than five minutes of the second half.
Duke's Jeremy Roach notched 14 points with a 7-for-11 shooting night.
Caleb Foster racked up 15 points off the Blue Devils' bench, reserve Jaylin Blakes had 10 points and starting freshman Jared McCain had eight points as Duke won a season opener for the 23rd consecutive season.
This is a more experienced Duke team than many in recent seasons, with Roach, Ryan Young, Tyrese Proctor and Filipowski giving the Blue Devils some veteran elements. Filipowski led the Blue Devils in scoring last season with 15.1 points per game.
Coach Jon Scheyer is in his second season following the retirement of NCAA wins leader Mike Krzyzewski.
Duke's lead was 63-43 at the 11-minute mark. On the night, the Blue Devils shot a blistering 64.4 percent, including 70 percent in the second half.
Filipowski and Young shared team rebounding honors with seven boards apiece.
Duke recorded all this offense despite limited chances at the free-throw line, going 9-for-12 on foul shots.
Dusan Neskovic poured in 23 points on 11-for-19 shooting for Dartmouth. Ryan Cornish, the team's leading returning scorer (12.5 points per game) had nine points for the Big Green, with seven of those on free throws.
No Dartmouth reserve scored more than two points. The Big Green were 4-for-18 on 3-point attempts.
Duke raced to a 42-21 halftime lead, finishing the half on a 17-2 run across a span of slightly more than five minutes.
Duke made 18 of its first 25 shots from 2-point range.
Blue Devils forward Mark Mitchell didn't play because of a lower-body injury.
This was the first-ever Dartmouth-Duke matchup.
