Kameron McGusty made a crucial second-chance 3-pointer with 38 seconds left as the Miami Hurricanes defeated the host Penn State Nittany Lions, 63-58, in the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup on Wednesday night at University Park, Pa.

Sam Waardenburg led the Hurricanes (5-3) with 14 points, making 4-of-8 on 3-pointers. McGusty, Charlie Moore and Isaiah Wong all had 12 points for Miami.

Miami was leading 60-58 with 62 seconds left when McGusty missed a 3-pointer. However, teammate Jordan Miller grabbed an offensive rebound and that led to McGusty's second-chance bomb from the left elbow.

Penn State (4-3) was led by John Harrar's 16 points and 12 rebounds, both game highs. He went 6-for-6 from the floor and hit 4 of 5 free throws.

Teammate Seth Lundy added 14 points, but he made just 2-of-9 from long range and 6 of 14 overall.

Penn State also missed its final four shots -- including a free throw -- following McGusty's trey.

The first half featured seven lead changes and three tie scores.

Waardenburg scored 11 points in the first half to lead all scorers. Miami led 29-23 at the break, but neither team shot the ball particularly well in the opening 20 minutes.

Miami shot just 34.4 percent from the floor, and did slightly better by percentage (36.4) on 3-pointers, going 4-for-11. Penn State shot 38.5 percent, including 2-for-12 from long range.

With 17:25 left in the second half, Miller nailed a 3 to give Miami its biggest lead of the game, 38-30.

But Penn State immediately went on a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the second half, 40-38, with 14:05 left.

The game was close for the remainder of the second half.

For the game, Miami shot 43.1 percent from the floor, including 9-for-25 on 3-pointers (36 percent).

Penn State shot 43.4 percent from the floor, including 6-of-24 from long range (25 percent). Penn State was also plus-11 on rebounds.
