D.J. Burns Jr. scored 24 points and had nine rebounds as Winthrop led for almost the entire game and upset Washington 82-74 on Saturday night in a nonconference game in Seattle.

Patrick Good scored 18 points and Kelton Talford added 10 for Winthrop (3-3), which lost at Washington State on Monday night. Good had 33 points in that game.

Daejon Davis scored 21 points for the Huskies (4-4) and Arizona transfer Terrell Brown Jr. added 18 points. Brown has scored in double figures in each of Washington's games this season.

Washington led only once, at 28-27 in the first half.

Burns' jumper with 4:30 left extended Winthrop's lead to 68-57. Good's basket with 2:01 left gave the Eagles a 73-62 lead, but Washington's PJ Fuller made a 3-pointer 12 seconds later to cut the deficit to 73-65.

Washington later cut the deficit to 77-70 with 43 seconds left on Brown's layup after a steal by Davis, but the Eagles went 7-for-10 from the foul line in the final minute to seal the victory.

Winthrop led from the start, scoring the first seven points of the contest. Burns had five of those and 12 in the half. Winthrop's biggest lead was 19-10 with 10:10 to go on Burns' basket off a pass from Good.

But the Huskies rallied and went ahead 28-27 on Jamal Bey's three with 2:42 to go before intermission for their lone lead. That advantage was merely temporary as Cory Hightower's three-point play restored the lead to the Eagles, 30-28.

Good's trey with 22 seconds left concluded the scoring in the half and sent the visitors to the locker room with a 35-30 lead.

Good opened the second half with another 3-pointer for a 38-30 lead and the teams traded baskets until Burns' putback with 13:15 left gave Winthrop a 48-38 lead and prompted a timeout by Washington coach Mike Hopkins.
