Peyton Hillis rushed for a career-high 184 yards and two touchdowns as the Cleveland Browns dominated the New England Patriots en route to a 34-14 victory on Sunday.
Colt McCoy completed 14 of 19 for 174 yards and added a rushing touchdown for Cleveland (3-5), which has beaten the New Orleans Saints and the Patriots in consecutive games.
The Browns made their move early, converting a field goal on the opening possession and then recovering Sammy Morris’ fumble on the ensuing kickoff.
Cleveland took advantage of its good fortune when McCoy completed a 17-yard pass and Hillis busted through for a 2-yard touchdown to give his team a 10-0 lead before the game was even four minutes old.
The Browns’ defense forced three straight punts before the Patriots finally got on the board in the second on Brady’s 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Aaron Hernandez. But Cleveland bounced right back on the next series with an 11-yard touchdown rush by Chansi Stuckey.
New England (6-2) had a chance at the end of the half but tight end Rob Gronkowski fumbled inside the 10-yard line.
McCoy rushed for his touchdown in the third and Hillis put the nail in it with a 35-yard scoring run with 2:38 left in the game.
