Vernon Fiddler collected his first career hat trick as the Phoenix Coyotes scored three times in the second period and held on for a 5-4 triumph over the visiting Calgary Flames on Friday.
Lee Stempniak added his team-leading fifth goal of the season, Scottie Upshall also tallied and Lauri Korpikoski notched two assists as Phoenix (6-5-5) posted its second win in a row.
Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 31 shots to improve to 5-2-5 this season for the Coyotes.
Rene Bourque scored his team-leading eighth goal and added an assist for Calgary (7-8-0), which has dropped five of its last six games.
Ian White netted a power-play goal with 7:20 remaining in the second period, and Alex Tanguay and Tim Jackman scored 29 seconds apart in the final minute of the third period to put a scare into Phoenix.
Miikka Kiprusoff finished with 21 saves for the Flames. The 34-year-old Finn fell to 12-7-2 in 21 career games against the Coyotes.
