Henrik Lundqvist turned aside all 29 shots he faced and Brad Richards collected his fourth goal in six contests as the New York Rangers recorded their first six-game home winning streak in nearly 15 years with a 2-0 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.
Rookie Carl Hagelin netted his first career NHL goal in the third period for New York, which last won six straight at Madison Square Garden from Dec. 16, 1996-Jan. 4, 1997. The Rangers boast an NHL-best 6-1-1 mark at home this season.
Lundqvist denied Scott Hartnell on a breakaway during the first period and stopped 14 shots in the third to secure his second shutout of season and 37th career.
After a video review denied the Rangers a goal just moments earlier, Richards brought the home crowd to its feet 54 seconds into the second period. With New York on the power play, Richards floated a shot from the right faceoff circle that sailed past a screened Sergei Bobrovsky and just under the crossbar for his eighth goal of the season.
Hagelin, who was playing in his second NHL game, provided insurance 5:06 into the third period. The 23-year-old Swede was denied by Bobrovsky on a backhander, but quickly settled himself and wired a shot past the Russian netminder to give the Rangers a 2-0 advantage.
Bobrovsky finished with 30 saves for Philadelphia, which saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end.
